EU Commission launches AI Act Service Desk and Single Information Platform
The European Commission has launched the AI Act Service Desk and the AI Act Single Information Platform to facilitate smooth implementation of the AI Act and provide legal certainty for scaling trustworthy AI across the EU. The Single Information Platform, mandated by the AI Act, centralizes authoritative materials, including guidance, FAQs, and resources from Member States, helping stakeholders navigate obligations and application scenarios.
The platform includes three digital tools: a Compliance Checker to assess whether entities fall under legal obligations and outline required compliance steps; an AI Act Explorer to browse chapters, annexes, and recitals in an intuitive interface; and an online form enabling stakeholders to submit questions directly to the AI Act Service Desk, operated in close cooperation with the AI Office. These tools aim to streamline interpretation and operationalization for providers, deployers, and other actors across the AI value chain.
Entering into force on 1 August 2024, the AI Act establishes harmonized EU rules for trustworthy AI, balancing innovation and risk mitigation. It addresses risks to health, safety, and fundamental rights, and reinforces democratic safeguards and the rule of law. The Act creates a single market framework that reduces fragmentation and supports scale-up of compliant AI solutions.
The Commission plans a phased rollout, with the AI Act progressively applying until full implementation by 2 August 2027. The Service Desk and Single Information Platform are positioned as practical supports for compliance planning, risk management, and documentation, signaling a coordinated EU approach to legal clarity and consistent enforcement.
